Digital Transformation Metrics

Feb 14, 2020   //   by Cal Braunstein   //   Blog, Reports  //  No Comments

RFG Perspective: Some think digital transformation is just an IT-related project without impact on the lines of business while others believe it is some form of digital business transformation. For an enterprise to be successful in transforming the company, it is necessary for all executives and all departments to understand the goals, metrics, and desired outcomes and to be fully on board. Additionally, everyone needs to know the role they will play throughout the process and after the solution is in production.

2020 Predictions

RFG Perspective: The global economic and geopolitical environments will be more positive than negative for most countries, which will make for more constrained IT budgets in 2020. Additionally, the disintermediation impacts of the digital economy, trade disruptions and tariffs will continue to disrupt businesses – and whole industries – that must be addressed by corporate executives before their firms' revenues are usurped by new or transformed competitors.

Igniting Innovation

Oct 30, 2019   //   by Cal Braunstein   //   Blog, Reports  //  No Comments

RFG Perspective: Digital Business Transformation (just another word for innovation) is one of the latest buzzwords pushed down into the organization without any process defined on how to gain employee buy-in and drive success. Innovation can come from anywhere or anyone and can lead to quantum gains in productivity or revenues. But like any other successful program, innovation must be approached as a process. Business and IT executives need to establish viable innovation processes and programs that get employees excited to gamble on suggesting and contributing to innovation.

Driving Innovation for Business Success

Oct 30, 2019   //   by Cal Braunstein   //   Blog, Reports  //  No Comments

RFG Perspective: Innovation, the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay, comes in many flavors. From a business perspective, it can be tied to existing core markets and offerings, adjacent spaces, or be transformational. The bolder the vision, the greater the resistance and inertia to adaptation. Nonetheless, companies need to continually innovate or face the prospect of losing their customers and markets to competition.

No Upside to Windows 7

Apr 25, 2019   //   by tech   //   Blog  //  No Comments

RFG Perspective: Microsoft has notified its users that support for Windows 7 is ending, yet it is likely that many enterprises will not want to migrate off the software. RFG has performed a cost/benefits analysis and found that it is more economical to migrate or replace older hardware (and software) than to hold pat. Staying on Windows 7 and paying for extended operating system support on outdated hardware can be more than twice as expensive than the upgrade options. is the most expensive option. IT executives need to understand the options and their costs and act accordingly before the support window ends.

Trends 2018 Predictions Technology Part 2

RFG Perspective: Mobility and the digital economy proved to be an overarching theme in 2017
and will prove somehow to be even more ingrained in the all facets of enterprise business in
2018. While desktops are still the on-site work engine, they are no longer the user device of
preference for business or personal use.

tailwinds in 2018, which will enable more businesses to increase their IT budgets. Additionally, the

tailwinds in 2018, which will enable more businesses to increase their IT budgets. The passage of
the 2018 Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017 will boost corporate spending, especially for capital

Rack-Mounted Mainframes

Jun 8, 2018   //   by admin   //   Blog, Reports  //  No Comments

RFG Perspective: A major breakthrough: mainframes redesigned for the 21 st century – compacted to be
rack-mounted and standardized for data center aisles while still leaving rack space for other components.
This modernization should make the new, highly secure, compact low-end z14 ZR1 and LinuxONE
Rockhopper II attractive to enterprise executives as they build out their next generation data centers,
including their private cloud infrastructures. IT executives should determine if these new rack-mounted
mainframes are the least risk, least cost compute platforms for certain workloads from both the financial
and technical perspectives.
